Gershwin: “Concerto in F” by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra 1928

This is a different orchestration from the original performed by the New York Symphony in late 1925. It was arranged by Ferde Grofé for Whiteman’s smaller orchestra. Personally, I prefer the original larger sound of a symphony orchestra, but this version is also really good and historically interesting if not important. It is the first recording made of the Concerto.

My set of this recording on three 12 inch records (six sides) is in near mint condition. It is almost like they had never or at least rarely played. Side 4 had some signs of play, but there is no distortion or any flaws that show through. I am very happy with how this transfer turned out. It was a lot of work to get all this captured, so it is very encouraging to have a good transfer.

Thanks Bruce! Something like this with six 12 inch sides took me many hours. But, actually the transfers are the easier part of making videos. The research and finding images takes the most time. I have fun doing it though and recently with staying at home so much I have done quite a number of them.

Dan, I'm in agreement with Bruce.  The quality of your transfers, both audio and video image selection and timing is superb.  They also present exceptionally well on this site.  This one in particular is impressive as a 23 minute plus video. - rod

Yep puts the rest of us to shame. I need a forum where my measly photos and videos (blurry) look normal!!! ha ha Just great to see and hear these wonderful records. I don't think I'll be posting anything in the near future. I'll just watch and be enthralled.

I've had this album on Royal Blue for 20+ years; I'm not sure which is more rare, that or the original Potato Head issue. Beautiful transfer, Dan. Love it!

The Royal Blue is quieter and sounds better but being a "first pressing" geek it's the "Kartoffelkopf" for me!
