"On This Day in Phonographic History..."

 

July 8, 1872: Born: Harry Von Tilzer (born Aaron Gumbinsky in Detroit, MI) was an immensely successful composer and songwriter. His string of hits began in 1898 when he composed My Old New Hampshire Home, which sold 2 million sheet music copies. In 1902, he formed his own music publishing company which was co-managed with his younger brother, Albert, whose successful songwriting career includes Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

One of the greats and a very prolific composer. So many great records contain songs by this composer of the early recording era.
