Wahski Posted Saturday at 09:03 AM Posted Saturday at 09:03 AM (edited) Pathe Disk for Home Recording by The Oro-Tone Co. Chicago USA Anyone have more insight on these round silver things with three holes. They are 6½"/165mm in diameter and appear to be made of aluminum, and many moons ago were used for home recordings. I recently got one and would love to hear what could be on this home recording. Looking at disk has three distinctive tracks on each side. I tried getting scans but because of reflective surface, didn't turn out great, even if you invert/tweak image for it to display. I don't have facebook account, but found better images of it via a search https://www.facebook.com/groups/phonograph/posts/25521449634146139/ Have a number of questions if anyone can oblige: -These were vertically (not laterally) cut? Patent says 'invention has particular reference to a record having the laterally cut groove, so called, but is not confined to that type' Link to PDF of Patent 1421045 -What speed would they play back at -78 or 80RPM? If so - would not go for long. -What year(s) were these in use? -What could you play them on today, sleeve which it comes with refers to 'the Edison'- So Edison player (Diamond disc) might work which I don't have. -Guessing a regular windup 78rpm might damage it even if could find fibre/bamboo needle. But might get some indication what is on record -Would this play at all on my Rega Planar 78 turntable ( RB78 cartridge) ? -Both sides seem to need a good clean, guessing Isopropyl Alcohol might be ok or with warm soapy water with the aluminum Edited Saturday at 09:09 AM by Wahski typos
