Ernie Mayne 'I Do Like A Little Bit Of Turkey At Xmas Time' 1923

I do like a man with a hobby that he crams down everybody else's throat

Such as growing prize tomatoes, or extra large potatoes

My only hobby is my work, I work at a brewery

But when it comes to weaknesses there's only one with me.

Chorus: I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Must 'ave a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Don't like ham, that's too light, I've got a pretty good appetite

Give me a little bit of what I like

And I'm all right, quite all right

But I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

That will suit me absolutely fine

Any old place, any old where

Put what you like upon the bill of fare

But give me a little bit of turkey at Christmas time.

'Twas Christmas day in the workhouse. Ah, you've heard that one before

Well they cursed that Christmas pudden, and said it wasn't a good 'un

One chap said, 'In this lump I've got, there's only about two plums

Although I've only two teeth left you need yer blinking gums.’

Chorus 1: I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Must 'ave a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Don't like ham, that's too light, I've got a pretty good appetite

Give me a little bit of what I like

And I'm all right, quite all right

But I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

That will suit me absolutely fine

Whether it rains, whether it snows

I must have a nibble at the parson's nose

But give me a little bit of turkey at Christmas time.

Chorus 2: I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Must 'ave a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

Don't like ham, that's too light, I've got a pretty good appetite

So, give me a little bit of what I like

And I'm all right, just quite all right

But I do like a little bit of turkey at Christmas time

That will suit me absolutely fine

I'll wash it down with ale or stout

Even if I have my appendix out

But I must have a little bit of turkey at Christmas time.

That's certainly a "new" one to me. Also, though I am sure there are others that would disagree, that's probably the earliest usage of the abbreviation "Xmas" that I've personally seen.
