melvind Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 I transferred Lyric Record 5109 and noticed a very strange thing on both sides of the record. It is a vertical cut record and I read somewhere during my research that these records could be as long as 4 minutes or so. The music on this record is about 3 minutes long on each side. But, at the end of the music there is about 1 minute more of empty grooves. A very long playout. Has anyone else seen something like this or know why they might have manufactured a record in this manner? The image below shows what I mean. If you look at the inner groove at the end of the music you can see the empty portion very clearly. I did not include the empty section in my transfer, but if you want to hear this record here is a link. https://youtu.be/hrSFYx3ZGF0 3
AmberolaAndy Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I recently found a record on this label myself. Good thing I researched it and discovered it’s a vertical groove record. I wonder how many people are caught off guard on these non Diamond Disc or Pathe type vertical groove records? 1
