LyneisFilm Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I have restored an Edison Standard Model A, circa 1905, two minute player for a neighbor. He has 6 black wax original Edison recordings that work OK. Also, there are some black wax cylinders labeled Edison Blanks and some others that have been "recorded" on by the original owners. Also some labeled Shaved. There is also a shaver without blades. Was it possible for owners to record onto these black wax cylinders? I have seen demonstrations of the softer brown was cylinders being recorded on, but never on the harder wax black ones. The self recorded black wax cylinders don't sound so great and are in Armenian. AmberolaAndy Posted May 13, 2022 Posted May 13, 2022 Probably. But I wouldn’t recommend it due to the black wax being harder.
Tinfoilphono Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 When 4-minute attachments came into the market Edison sold black blanks for use on such machines. They could obviously work with 2-minute recorders as well. I don't own any such blanks but I would assume that the compound was softer than the usual black Gold Moulded records.
