"On This Day in Phonographic History..."

 

November 22, 1897: Thomas Macdonald filed for a U.S. patent for a “Graphophone.”  This would become the extraordinarily successful Type Q, which was probably the best-selling cylinder talking machine in the world.

 

August 13, 1901: Thomas Macdonald was granted U.S. patent No.680,339 for a “Graphophone.”

Nice pictures George and such an interesting patent that became one of the great machines for Columbia.

On this date, 58 years ago, 1963, a tragic event occurred in Dallas, not related to phonograph history.
