“Rewrite the books” 

For almost 20 years I knew of the existence of a clockwork Home phonograph 

sitting in a small Edison phonograph collection in Germany.  A few weeks ago 

the collector called me; He had decided that the time was right to find a new home for his gems. 

 

Now I want to share this “discovery” with all of you. I took a number of pictures to show all details of this early machine with serial number as low as 52.

 

This is probably the earliest one known.

About 25 years ago I was on an international business-trip, rushing through the Frankfurt, Germany airport.  I passed a glass display cabinet housing several Edison Phonographs as display items.   I think this may have been one of them, but the security-force patrolling with machine-guns distracted me.

 

In roughly the same time period, one of these appeared at Stanton’s Auctions and I was amazed at its operation.

 

If you could favor us with a video of it in-operation, that would be fantastic.
