"On This Day in Phonographic History..."

 

January 27, 1897: Thomas A. Edison filed for a U.S. patent for a “Governor for Motors.”  This device would become the motor for the Edison “Home” Phonograph, in production with minor changes until 1913.

 

May 31, 1898: Thomas A. Edison was granted a U.S. patent (No.604,740) for a “Governor for Motors.”
