RodPickett Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Vaughn DeLeath was born Lenora Vonderleith, and later took the name Lenora Greer after the marriage to her first husband, Leon Greer. Vaughn DeLeath was her “stage-name”. Her mother, Katie (Miller) Vonderleith, performed as a local musician and singer in the Decatur, Illinois area. The following excerpt from her mother’s obituary highlights the relationship to “The Radio Girl”. The Decatur Review, June 27, 1929 Page 16 MT. PULASKI, BURIES FORMER RESIDENT Mother of "Original Radio Girl." Dies Mt. Pulaski, June 27,- The body of Mrs. Katie Vonderleith Phippen arrives here Wednesday afternoon from New York City where she died Monday, June 24, aged sixty-eight years, two months and nineteen days. Katie Miller was born in Mt. Pulaski, April 5, 1861, and before and after her marriage to George Vonderleith of this city, was prominent locally as a musician and singer. Two children were born to her and Mr. Vonderleith Accompanying the remains to Mt. Pulaski were her two daughters, Mrs. Alma Cunningham and Mrs. Leonora Greer, the latter famous as the "Original Radio Girl." under the name of "Vaughn de Leith." The 1940 Census indicated she was living in New York and Find A Grave reflects her burial place and relatives, including mother and father. 2
