Sandy Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 Can you tell me if this is rare.? Manufacturer? Value? 1
AZ_ Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Another off-brand phonograph, not of much interest to most serious collectors, and of not much monetary value. Read about off-brands phonos here: https://www.antiquephono.org/brand-talking-machines-r-j-wakeman/
Sandy Posted June 2, 2021 Author Posted June 2, 2021 Thank you so much for answering this question. I appreciate your help.
BenL Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) There were quite a few machines that used the brand name "Symphony", one in PA, Boston, New York , and even Canada. It'll probably take a little research to figure out the exact manufacturer.(I feel the Recreator tag is in reference to the supplier motor and not the machine itself, but maybe?) It's referred to in the hobby as an "Off-brand", made by a minor company when the major patents expired. It likely dates between 1918-1924 when the cabinet phonograph boom happened. It's a more interesting off brand with the posts, as they looked carved compared to pressed wood that most off-brands used . Though sadly most off brands are a hard sell, they usually go between $75-$250 rarely ever going over $300 unless being more collectable. The posts are neat but other than that it's almost identical to the hundreds of other machines made during the time. Edited June 26, 2021 by BenL
