"On This Day in Phonographic History..."

 

July 2, 1889: Thomas A. Edison filed for a U.S. patent (eventually granted as No.423,039) for “Phonograph for Dolls or Other Toys.”

 

March 11, 1890: Thomas A. Edison was granted a U.S. patent (No.423,039) for “Phonograph for Dolls or Other Toys.” Fewer than 500 Edison Talking Dolls were sold in 1890.
