"On This Day in Phonographic History..." January 27, 1897: Thomas A. Edison filed for a U.S. patent for a “Governor for Motors.” This device would become the motor for the Edison “Home” Phonograph, in production with minor changes until 1913.

The juxtaposition of this patent and the Amet posting is interesting.  Was there a sense that machines needed more massive governors prior to Edison's filing?  I guess the first step would be to read what he patented!

My favorite phonograph is the first homes.  Thanks for the information. I brought  bunch of them and even gave one to my sister.  I am going to start trading them when we open the shows at Stanton. They are all complete.  Tom
