amberola75 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Hello, I have a couple of real early Model A Suitcase Homes. The serial Numbers are around H4200 so I would guess they were produced around mid 1897. Does this sound about right? Also, does anyone have any idea how many of this suitcase model were made? Thanks, Jim
phonogfp Posted August 14 Posted August 14 An article appeared in the September 2006 issue of the APS magazine (which includes a dating chart for suitcase Homes), so this information has been available for a LONG time. A comprehensive article (which includes a dating chart from 1897 through May 1908) on all models of the Home (A-F) appeared in the June 2024 issue of the APS magazine. As reported in the article, around 40,000 suitcase Homes were manufactured. Similar articles with dating charts have appeared in recent issues which address the Gem, Standard, Spring-Motor/Triumph, and Concert. A current APS membership gives access to all previous issues of the magazine (along with over 30,000 pages of other documents). Any serious collector of antique phonographs should be an APS member. https://www.antiquephono.org/#/ Homes in the 4200 range left the factory in February 1898. George P. 1
