maginter Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I came across an interesting machine and I wanted to see if anyone has seen this before. It is an early Victor XVII, S/N:2300. This machine has been in their family over 60 years. So, it was acquired or passed down in the mid 1960's. Looking at the machine, it is all original and no sign of tinkering. However the cabinet knobs are not what I have come to expect on a XVII, with the decreasing circles machined in the front and flat edges. Thes knob look like they are off of a Victor XVI. Has anyone seen this or have they been replaced???? TIA
PatheLogical Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Hey Mark, Those knobs are likely correct. Early XVIIs have these knobs as you show, while later XVIIs have knobs with concentric circles on their faces. Early XVIIs also usually have a "skinny" tonearm and Exhibition reproducers, while later versions usually have "fat" tonearms and Victrola No. 2 reproducers.
