lfx85 Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 I have a Valuphone manufactured by Wizard Phonograph Co. Itis number 4450. It was partially restored about 25 years ago. Teh sound piece and needle are off due to a failed gasket. The arm appears to be in good condition. I am getting ready to clear out of my house and wonder if this is something that would be of interest to anyone or just a simple replica.
BenL Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 (edited) It's a Valuphone model "junior" made between 1921-1923.(4450 is a serial number.) Valuphone was originally connected to George L. Hadley, secretary of the Kimball piano company. In 1921 he sold the brand to the Wizard Phonograph Company. (Not to be confused with the earlier wizard cylinder phonograph company.) They built low cost budget models to be sold in various businesses, as a cheaper alterative to the more recognizable brands. It's considered a lower tier off-brand here in the collecting community. It has little monetary value, but it's a nice starter machine. Edited November 8, 2023 by BenL
