Lelo Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I resently aquired the Silvertone phonograph pictured and I am trying to gather information on it. I know it was sold by Sears. I have not been able to determine much else. It came with the orginal "owners manual" pictured but I can not find a model number on the document. There is a small brass plate on the back of the cabnet with what I thought was a serial number (A-1144) but it has not been helpful in my search. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BenL Posted January 8 Posted January 8 (edited) Welcome to the forum, @Lelo Excuse the delayed response, it took a little digging to find your model. Sears registered Silvertone as a trademark in late 1915 and was granted in early 1916, with their first models appearing in their Spring 1916 catalog. Silvertone remained Sears house brand for their phonographs and radios well into the 1940s. Your model is B-XII, that dates around 1917-1919. The tag on the back is indeed a serial number, but sadly there's no surviving records to really narrow anything down. Sears subcontracted their phonograph cabinets through the Pooley Furniture Company of Philadelphia. They were a well-regarded furniture maker that holds the distinction of making the first Victrola cabinet, for the Victor Talking Machine Co. Edited January 9 by BenL
