OddBell Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 I finally got the motor out and want to disassemble it for cleaning. I know it's a pillar and plate motor based on what I've read but does anyone have any tips or know anything I should watch out for while taking it apart? 1
MisterJive47 Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 This may be common sense to you but, first things first, be sure that it is completely wound down! Hold the speed control lever back on the governor until it stops spinning. If it is a little sticky, I would suggest giving the spindle shaft a few turns in the clockwise direction to completely disspell any remaining tension. Take pictures during disassembly to aid the reverse procedure. You can use WD-40 or mineral spirits to break up hardened grease. Good luck!
OddBell Posted October 5, 2023 Author Posted October 5, 2023 Oh for sure, I've been following The Compleat Talking Machine so that's the first thing I did. Everything is covered in sticky grease so the WD40 has been great. I have a plan to seal the motor area so it doesn't get caked in dirt again, I don't think the inventors thought about this during the process 1
CurtA Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Just don't use Vaseline & graphite for "lubrication"... 1
