wcukras Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Hello, I apologize if this subject has been covered before, but I'm wondering about a practical way to replace my worn off striping around the outside edge on the bed plate of my Standard Model B?, and also the "Edison Signature Logo" on the bed plate as well? The striping is almost entirely gone except 2 corners, and Edison signature is complete but extremely weak and faint. Thanks in advance Wayne
Guest Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 Decals from Greg Cline is one way. https://www.phonodecal.com/ The striping is very fiddly but looks good when correctly applied and sealed.
phonogfp Posted February 21, 2023 Posted February 21, 2023 For pinstriping, I've used drafting pens for nearly 40 years with very good results. I don't use model paint like Testor's, but metallic gold hobby enamel that has tiny flecks of brass in it. I've used the same can since 1984, with occasional additions of mineral spirits. I think it was called "Florentine Gold" (the label is long gone). If you don't have a steady hand, or if you're impatient, this probably isn't a good route, but it can give an authentic appearance. Striping a Model B Standard is about as simple as it gets, so it would be a good machine to learn on. George P.
Django Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 (edited) For the signature, Greg Cline’s decals are a good choice. Micr-Sol blends the decal in nicely. A little Amber shellac over the top and it’s good for another hundred years. this thread might be helpful. Edited February 22, 2023 by Django
