AudioAntique Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 As a special day to honor the great inventor, we spent the day at Hearthstone House Museum in Appleton, WI. This is the first house in the world to be electrified with an Edison hydroelectric central station system in 1882. In anticipation of spring, we established a theme featuring Edison phonographs with flowered morning glory horns. The theme also incorporates the memory of a local talented musician, poet, writer, horticulturist, and song writer who wrote the lyrics to the most popular song the of early 1900s: Silver Threads Among the Gold which he penned in 1872. At the time, this song sold more copies that any other song in the world, which is why you have come across this recording so often. Guests were treated to birthday cake and an array of Edison kitchen appliances that were displayed on the kitchen table. Various rooms displayed Edison’s favorite invention with flowered horns that played (you guessed it.) A highlight that made a hit with participants was making an Edison cylinder recording. It seems that people are just as amazed today as they would have been over 130 years ago. Spread the joy and fascination of the Edison phonograph to others. 6

Django Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I wish that I had known of the Hearthstone House Museum. I worked with Miller Electric’s plasma cutting division for about twelve years and made many trips to Appleton, (about the friendliest people that I have ever known). Thank you for sharing.
