Daskraut Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I like the idea of a Victor suitcase model as my space is limited. It seems the VV2-55 is popular as far as articles found on the internet, but you guys would know. Thoughts?
melvind Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I think this is a hard topic in the USA because potables are not considered desirable to most collectors. This is very much different in the UK where many collectors only seem to collect portables. To me the best Victor portable for acoustic records is the VV 50. If you are looking to play electrically recorded records then a portable from the 1930s would be a better fit. I hope this helps.
phonogfp Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 I agree with Dan in that "best" is largely a matter of personal taste. I've always like the VV-50 and VV-35 primarily for their appearance, plus they play acoustic records well. However, among portables it hard to beat an HMV 101 or 102 with either a No.4 or No.5 sound box. There are highly-regarded Columbia portables as well, but I'm not sufficiently versed on them to offer an opinion. George P.
