melvind Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 (edited) Being from 1946 this is much later than most records I transfer. But a number of my collector friends collect Vogue Picture records. I really never have except for this one set because I love Rhapsody in Blue so much. This version of Gershwin's most famous piece is very truncated to much less than half of the piece on two 10 inch sides. The other two sides are songs. All 4 sides take less time than Rhapsody in Blue would normally take in its entirety. I think it all sounds a bit over-produced, but it is fun to listen to a picture record. It always seems to me they should sound terrible, but they have pretty clean surfaces as it turns out. However, I think this copy may be a bit worn out especially in Rhapsody in Blue. And finally, this record is by an all girl orchestra as they were named. Perhaps a better name would be used today, but this brought Girl Power into fashion on the radio and on records just after World War II. Not the first all girl orchestra, but perhaps the most prominent and famous. 00:00 Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue 06:29 Blue Skies 09:44 Alice Blue Gown (watch for the fashion show, of sorts, during this side) Here are the images from the records. They are really nice to look at. Edited June 11, 2020 by melvind
