This silly little record is something I picked up at the recent APS Midwest Expo. I just couldn't resist such a cute tiny four inch Durium record. The song is ridiculous and very short. I thought some of you might be interested in this odd little thing.

In 1921 Columbia sent equipment to record the Coon-Sanders Novelty Orchestra to Kansas City. They recorded 4 sides, but only this one was released. It would be a few years later before they recorded again and then for Victor.

I recently found the album that was provided to customers when they bought one of the new machines that could play both 78 and 33 1/3 rpm records in 1931. I also found a really terrific record that would have been in the album. I hope you enjoy this. It was fun for me to find these items and to make the video.

Of the 10 private recordings from the 1st session in 1915, not released and privately held by Ford, two have surfaced recently, likely from copies given to local schools, “Lola” (number 4 sequentially) and “Believe Me”(number 6 sequentially). Sadly, someone has glued an inner-plastic sleeve into “Believe Me” and it will not fit on a traditional mandrel for transfer. We are working to get this transferred, but attached is a crude acoustic transfer of “Lola”.

Annette Hanshaw was born in 1901 and died in 1985. In this June 3rd 1933 recording she sings that her father was Irish and her mother was English. There are several interesting biographies of Annette Hanshaw on the web so I won't go into detail here. "Sweetheart Darlin'" was issued on Melotone and other ARC labels. Oddly, she never liked her recordings and this one was one of three that she never wanted to be played on the radio. Here it is, just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

The Dixie Shoe Steppers were a dance band created to promote Dixie Shoes the main selling point of which was a $3 pair equivalent to any $4 shoes, see attached ad pdf. The Dixie Shoe Steppers recorded a series of programs which were distributed to radio stations in the midwestern states on 12" records pressed by Brunswick. WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio featured a Dixie Shoe Steppers program on Saturday nights at 7pm local time. A listing of shows recorded in 1929 may be found here https://adp.library.ucsb.edu/index.php/mastertalent/detail/312341/Dixie_Shoe_Steppers and there were others recorded before and after that.

I’m a sucker for fun labels and rarities so this record fit right in when I found it. It’s in near mint condition and sounds terrific.

This electrical recording of "You And I" by Jack Shilkret's Orchestra was recorded in Montreal, Canada on January 23, 1925. It appeared on a promotional record on Canadian Victor 19571 A-A with the regular acoustic version recorded the day before in Camden, NJ on the flip side. The usual "VE" in the oval is pressed in the deadwax area and also appears on the label. The label is marked "Not For Sale" and this recording did not appear on a regular release.

This 1907 record is not necessarily a Christmas record, but it does work quite well. It’s energetic and helps you imagine snow and a sleigh with silver bells. The record is in remarkable shape for it’s age. I hope it brightens your Christmas season.
