Description

Hello, I recently emailed the Antique Phonograph Society with a question and was told by George Paul to join this group and post my question in your forum. I am helping a friend with liquidating her parents-in-law estate and they have an Elti-nolean phonograph that she would like to sell to someone who would appreciate its intrinsic value. From the information I have found, it is complete (with additional steel needles and quite a few records), but has been sitting for some time in their house (years) so it could use a good cleaning.  As for price, we could only gather a round about figure of $1000.00, but if you have any references on price, we would appreciate it.  She lives in Clarksville, Tn., about 45 minutes above Nashville and it would have to be picked up there. If any of you have any interest in it or could direct me to someone who might be interested, please private message me. Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

This was assembled by the Charles H. Elting & Co., a steel manufacturing company based out of Chicago. They originally made mainsprings before becoming a motor supplier, dealing phonograph motors and other motor parts.  This was an attempt at marketing their own house brand through their dealers. Many minor brands didn't give their machines exact model numbers/letters and identified them by their price, this model was $150.

I'd put it around 1918-1919 as a good estimate as to when it was built. I don't mean to come off pessimistic, but this would be considered an off-brand here in the collecting community. (A lower tier off-brand.) I feel a fair non-retail value would be around $100-$250,  I know that seems quite a bit lower than your ballpark figure. There were around 500 separate phonograph brands in the US between 1910-1925, sadly only a portion are collectible.

Thank you so much for the information. That lines up with what we have found out since I posted this. We are having the estate sale next weekend and will be asking $150 OBO. We did find about 30 to 40 records that go with it. The forum members have been very helpful to come up with a realistic asking price because we couldn't find an exact match. Thank you for that. And if any of you know of anyone who lives in the Nashville area who might make a reasonable offer for its intrinsic value, please let me know. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!  Debbie

I live outside Nash, if it doesn't sell at your estate sell let me know and I'll pass it on to the other collectors in middle, TN. But mind you, not very many would interested in a off-brand.

That would be great because if it doesn't sell, it will be donated and we would like it to go to someone who would at least appreciate it for its history. The estate sale is in Clarksville and would need to be picked up there. It is her in-laws estate. Where outside of Nashville do you live? My husband and I live in Joelton, but I used to live in Clarksville.
